Individual Therapy x Couples Therapy ... where's the focus?
The Individual Therapy Focus - this is your personal space to dig into what you're feeling and going through. Whether it's anxiety, stress, past trauma, or just feeling stuck ... this is where you can explore it all. The aim here is to help you grow, cope better, and understand yourself more deeply. It's just you and me, focused entirely on your journey.
The Couples Therapy Focus - it's all about the relationship.
It's not just about you ... it's about both of you. The focus is on how you interact, communicate, and handle challenges together. The goal is to better understand each other, to work through conflicts, and to build a stronger, more connected relationship. Both of you are involved, working as a team towards shared goals.
Sometimes it's useful for partners in couples counselling to have individual therapy too ... as engaging in both can contribute to healthier, more resilient relationships by addressing both individual and shared experiences.
Couples therapy is a bit like relationship coaching for both of you, whereas 1-to-1 therapy is more of a deep dive into your own life. Both are really valuable ... they just serve different purposes.

My name is Delyth Cole ... and I'm a qualified, registered therapist based on the Wirral Peninsula in the North-West of England.
